Al Mezan Center for Human Rights condemned the arrest of leaders of the Fateh Movement in Gaza. According to Al Mezan, activists in Gaza city were detained and questioned about their political activities. Citing the political division in Gaza between Fateh and Hamas, these detentions appear politically motivated and therefore violate both Palestinian Basic Law and Articles 7 and 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). Al Mezan has therefore called on both sides to resolve to end the division and protect political activists for detention and reprisal.
