The Al Mezan Center for Human Rights condemned Israeli actions against Palestinian fishermen off the coast of the Gaza Strip. The Center reported that on September 22, Israeli gunboats surrounded a small fishing boat carrying five men from the Al Shate refugee camp and forced the men to remove their clothing. After detaining the men, Israeli forces interrogated them, “verbally abused” them, and eventually released them without charge. Citing this action among several other acts of sabotage and intimidation, as well as the continuing blockade of Gaza, Al Mezan called on the international community to intervene in Israel’s ongoing campaign against Palestinian civilians and comply with international obligations to protect the civilians.
